The New Vice Chancellor of Federal University of Technology Owerri(Futo) , Prof I.N.S Dozie earlier today August 12, 2026 paid an  inaugural visit to the palace of HRM Eze Mike Okere, the traditional ruler of Avu Ancient Kingdom.

The visit was part of the VC's mission to strengthen the University's relationship with host communities and improve security measures while also fostering sustainable collaborations.

Speaking during the visit, Prof. Dozie explained that the engagements were designed to introduce the new University administration to the traditional rulers of the Futo host communities while also exploring avenues for stronger partnerships that would support the continued growth and development of the Institution.

The VC said the University remains committed to building enduring relationships with government authorities, traditional institutions, and other stakeholders whose support would be invaluable in addressing  salient issues especially the security challenges being faced by the institution currently.

He decried the spate of insecurity within the university and the high level of encroachments in the university lands .He then  appealed to the Traditional ruler and stakeholders present to join forces with the institution to bring lasting solutions to these menace.

Responding, the royal father, Eze Mike Okere firstly congratulated the University Don on his assumption of office as VC Futo. He commended Prof. Dozie for reaching out to the host communities at the early stage of his administration, describing the initiative as a demonstration of inclusive leadership and a commitment to community-driven development.

While reaffirming Avu Community's commitment to the continued growth and sustainable development of Futo, Eze Mike appealed to the university to Consider admission slots, employment opportunities for the youth and also consider releasing some compensatory plots to the land owners.

The Vice Chancellor was accompanied by members of the University Management including ; the Registrar, Bursar, librarian etc  .

While on ground to receive the August visitors were: Members of the Oha Avu, Palace Secretary; Mr Tony Okoro, PG Avu Women Association; Mrs Chidimma Asoronye, President Avu Youth Association; Comr Stanley Rowland (Pikin), Chief Wisdom Ekewuba (Odenigbo), Hon Tony Onuoha amongst others.
