Abuja, Nigeria — Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Olatunji “Tunji” Disu has ordered a major redeployment of senior officers, posting 10 Assistant Inspectors-General of Police (AIGs) to strategic zonal commands, departments and specialised formations across the country.
The directive was issued on Monday, 27 July 2026, through a police wireless signal from the Force Secretariat in Abuja. The signal, referenced TH.5361/FS/FHQ/ABJ/SUB.7/X and titled “Posting Senior Officers,” was marked “Most Immediate” and circulated to departments, zonal commands, state commands, specialised units and training institutions for immediate implementation.
The move comes barely a week after IGP Disu formally decorated 13 newly promoted AIGs at Force Headquarters in Abuja, where he charged them to uphold professionalism and deliver effective policing.

- AIG Polycarp Emeka Nwonyi — Zone 9 Command, Umuahia
- AIG Obono Nnaghe Itam** — Commandant, Police Staff College, Jos
- AIG Bassey Samuel Ewa — Zone 15 Command, Maiduguri
- AIG Osagie John Agans-Irabor — Zone 3 Command, Yola
- AIG Monday Agbonika — Zone 5 Command, Benin
- AIG Daniel Edobor Iyamah — Department of Operations (DOPS), Force Headquarters, Abuja
- AIG Isah Danladi Nda — Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) Annex, Kaduna
- AIG Akaniyene Ifebem Ezima — Nigeria Police Force National Cybercrime Centre (NPF-NCCC), Abuja
- AIG Bello Rashid Afegbua — Zone 6 Command, Calabar
- AIG Betty Enekpem Otimenyin — Zone 8 Command, Lokoja
The Federal Capital Territory received multiple placements, including the Department of Operations and the National Cybercrime Centre, while the remaining officers were spread across eight states and zones.
Exclusive: More Shake-Ups Expected as IGP Pushes Reforms
However, speaking to TILEMA, a source familiar with the development, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said more shake-ups could be expected within the Nigeria Police Force.
According to the source, the IGP has pledged not to tolerate abuse of positions or power, a position that could lead to further reshuffling of senior officers across the force.
The source noted that, before the current administration, some AIGs and DIGs had remained in charge of certain formations for extended periods. Although the source did not attribute the prolonged stay of the officers in such positions to corruption or abuse of office, the source said the confidence that could come with overstaying in a particular position could undermine operational effectiveness.
“The IG has reiterated his commitment to reforming the Nigerian Police Force. Going forward, more shake-ups will be seen. Officers will no longer be comfortable in positions. This will encourage administrative growth and positive policing across the Nigerian Police Force at all levels,” the source said.
The source further said more changes could be expected as the IGP continues his efforts to reform the force across all sectors.
The latest postings are widely seen as part of broader efforts to strengthen operational leadership, improve coordination, and enhance the Force’s responsiveness to security challenges nationwide.
