A tragic incident has thrown Umuadara community in Umulogho, Obowo Local Government Area of Imo State into mourning after a female nursing student, Wendy Achumba, was reportedly found dead in her apartment under disturbing circumstances.
The deceased, an indigene of Abia State, was a student of the College of Nursing Sciences Umulogho, where she had completed her Midwifery programme and was undertaking Post Basic studies.
According to residents, Wendy Achumba was discovered lifeless inside her off-campus residence on Thursday, with signs of severe violence on her body. The shocking discovery immediately attracted community youths and residents who gathered at the scene in grief and anger.
Eyewitnesses described the victim as calm, respectful, and committed to her education, expressing shock over the tragic development.
“She was peaceful and focused on her studies. Nobody imagined something this terrible could happen to her,” a resident said anonymously.
The incident reportedly heightened tension within the community as residents demanded justice and improved security for students living around the area.
Security operatives who arrived at the scene were met by emotional residents and youths insisting on a thorough investigation into the killing.
The tragic death has further raised concerns over insecurity in student-populated communities across Imo State, especially for students living off-campus.
