The Nigeria Police Force in Imo State has confirmed the arrest of a suspect in connection with the gruesome killing of a female student of the College of Nursing Sciences Umulogho, located in Obowo Local Government Area.
The deceased, identified as Wendy Achumba, was reportedly murdered in her private off-campus residence by yet-to-be fully identified assailants.
According to reports, the victim, an indigene of Abia State, had successfully completed her Midwifery programme and was undergoing Post Basic studies at the institution before the tragic incident occurred.
In a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, Henry Okoye, the command disclosed that operatives swiftly responded to a distress call, visited the scene, conducted an on-the-spot assessment, and evacuated the victim’s body to the mortuary.
The police spokesperson further confirmed that one suspect has been arrested while investigations continue to uncover the full circumstances surrounding the killing.
“The Command has intensified investigations into the matter and remains committed to ensuring that all persons connected to the crime are identified and brought to justice,” the statement noted.
The incident has generated shock and sadness within the student community and beyond, with many calling for justice and improved security for students living off-campus.
The police command appealed to students and residents to remain calm, assuring the public that the situation is under control and that efforts are ongoing to ensure accountability.
Authorities have not yet disclosed the identity of the arrested suspect as investigations continue.
